Vermont Legal Aid (VLA) has filed a class action lawsuit in Washington Superior Court against the Vermont Department of Labor (VDOL). We are asking the court to tell VDOL to follow the law. VDOL is supposed to hold hearings no more than 30 days after someone asks for an appeal. VDOL is not following this law. Nearly two years after the coronavirus pandemic hit, Vermonters are still waiting almost six months for a hearing.
People don’t get unemployment benefits while they wait. These long delays by VDOL are devastating for out-of-work Vermonters still dealing with the effects of the pandemic.
